Southeastern Border Collie Rescue

Jerri:

It was good to talk with you even under the sad circumstances.  Vicki always said that meeting you and Stormy was a divine intervention (with help from the introduction by John Courtney of courseJ).  Stormy is the perfect dog and perfect breed for Vicki and I.  Smart, attentive, loving, playful and devoted.  He was by Vicki’s side throughout her health challenges and at her bedside keeping vigil as she fought for life at home during her last week.  Check out the picture attached. After her death, he provided an unusual level of attention to both Vicki’s mother, sister and best friend that made their grief more bearable. He has been really great with all of our family and friends (including many children) who have come to pay their respects over the past week. He seemed to know who needed the most support.

Attached is the obituary that will run in Florida Today this morning and some pictures.  If any of this attached information can help you raise funds, please feel free to use them on your website.  Vicki and my life together, along with the lives of our close friends and family, have been enhanced by Stormy’s presence in our home.  He and I will go through a time of re-adjustment to life without Vicki, but we both will be OK because we will do it together. Vicki, Stormy and  I want to thank you for placing the right dog with the right family.  You and your team are gifted at rescuing and finding good homes for Border Collies in need.  I will be sending a donation from Vicki and I in the next several days and hope that Vicki’s obituary can help you receive some additional donations in her memory that will allow to continue your great work for border collies and our central Florida regional community.

Thank You and God Bless,
Duane and Vicki De Freese

Obituary

Vicki Lyn De Freese (Galford) peacefully entered God’s Kingdom with family and friends present at home on February 3, 2011. Vicki was born on August 24, 1956. Vicki was the beloved wife of Duane E. De Freese. Vicki was a passionate and devoted dog lover - “Mother” of Stormy and “God Mother” to Pook and Bonnie. Professionally, Vicki was a self-employed hair stylist who served an elite clientele from a variety of Indialantic salons over the past 30 years. She referred to her clients as “the most beautiful women in Brevard”. Over the years, many of these clients became dear friends and extended “family” members. Some of these friendships spanned three generations of family members. She especially cherished the honored position of being a close friend and adopted “auntie” to the Versaggi families of Indialantic and Indian Harbor Beach. Vicki touched all that she met with her bright smile, infectious laugh and caring ways. Vicki loved Florida, its beaches and natural resources. She deeply loved the town of Indialantic and the beachside communities of the barrier island. Her best days began with a long run or walk through Indialantic in the early hours before dawn. She called these hours “her personal time before the world woke up”. Vicki loved life and lived it to its fullest measure. She will be remembered and dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. Vicki is survived by her Father and Mother (Berlin and Nellie Galford), Sister (Robin Price), Brother-In-Law (Mike Price), and Nephew Shawn Price - all of Elkins West Virginia. Nieces - Erin Price of Washington D.C. and Kristi Price of Charleston, WV. In following Vicki’s wishes, services will be private. Anyone planning an expression of sympathy is asked to consider a donation in her memory to the following charities: Southeast Border Collie Rescue League, C/O Ms. Jerri Carter, 400 South Kepler Road, DeLand, FL 32724 (http://www.bcrsq.org/donation.html).
